Personal opinion:
It is full of secrets and surprises, as it is the wine of a 2014 Generosa, a fresh plantation, and moreover, it is a Hungarian variety.
Nice colour, exciting new flavours and aromas - a unisex wine that can win everybody's heart.
It is no coincidence that it is the only variety that I selected classed without geographical indication. This wine is also a product of the Mór wine region. The excellent class is in vain
if the wine community description has not been accepted yet – bureaucracy!
Anyhow, I am not willing to give up on this excellent wine; I hope from the 2015 or 2016 vintage onwards we can bottle it with protected designation of origin.
Gastronomical pairing:
It is a fresh picnic wine - perfect with cheese, ham, and fine baked goods.
About the Generosa variety:
The Generosa is a white wine grape variety of Hungarian breeding. It was created by crossing the Ezerjó and Roter Traminer varieties by Károly Bíró in 1951. According to other sources, it was created by Dr. Edit Hajdú and her colleagues. Similar name: K15. Its freeze-resistance is similarly excellent to that of Cserszegi Fűszeres and Rhein Riesling, and its sprouts are frost-proof until -21 C. Its stock is of strong growth, its canes extrude upwards, they are straight and medium-thick. It grows an airy foliage, shaped by the sprouts growing straight upwards, and therefore, its pruning is not a problem. It hardly grows water-sprouts, its leaves are medium-sized, the leaf edges are serrated, with dense and shallow cuts, while the stalk is long and red. Its yield is abundant, and its clusters are medium-sized and compact. Its berries are elongated, round, small, with a meat red-purple hue, barely velveted, its skin is chewy, and its flavour is especially fine, aromatic, and acidic.
It is not sensitive to rotting, and is slightly sensitive to vine mildew. It tolerates drought well, and is easy to pick. It ripens at the end of September with a must of 18 to 20 degrees. It is suitable for the high culture training system.
The aroma of its wine recalls grape flower, and it has fine acids and a pleasant flavour.
The region and its history:
The past of the Mór wine region takes us back to historical times but our wine law lists the first and second class vineyard cadastre border parts of Mór, Pusztavám, Söréd, Csókakő, Zámoly and Csákberény as parts of the wine region from 1996.
In the life of the settlements vine-growing and wine-making played a definite part in the past. It had a fundamental effect on the livelihood and enrichment of the people and the development of individual settlements. For centuries the natural rhythm of locals was adjusted to the cultivation of vine and wine-making, and several festivities, social events and cultural traditions were also connected to them. The Mór wines are characteristically white wines. Besides the flagship variety Ezerjó, Leányka, Tramini, Riesling-Sylvaner, Green Veltliner and the Ezerfürtű are the most common varieties. Ezerjó - that is already one of the Hungaricums - became the main variety of the wine region during the re-plantations after the 19th century Phylloxera disaster.
Climate and geography:
The Mór wine region is one of the smallest in size among the 22 wine regions in Hungary but it belongs to the more famous ones.
The wine region is located on about 730 hectares in the valley of Vértes and Bakony in the boundaries of Mór, Pusztavám, Söréd, Csókakő, Zámoly and Csákberény settlements.
Its climate is continental.
Its topsoil consists of loess brown forest soil, clay, limestone and dolomite.
In the case of exceptionally good weather aszú wine can be made from shrunken berries that is a match for the Tokaj aszú both in aroma and quality. "The Mór wine is chalky, he who drinks it is brainy" - the saying goes even though the lime content of Mór wines is no higher than that of wines in other Hungarian wine regions. The Mór wines owe their masculinity to their high acid content. This, however, does not cause a headache, or a hangover, when consumed with moderation - unlike other wines with high carbonate content.
